Flourish – showcasing artworks by looked-after children and young people
Flourish is looking for submissions for a brand new exhibition to be held in Liverpool in October 2008. This will be the third annual exhibition of artwork by looked-after children and young people from around the country. Artists showing work in the past have encountered a broad range of care, having experienced adoption, secure accommodation, fostering, care for special needs or being looked after by a family member other than their parents.

Flourish provides opportunities for artists to share their practices with the public and each other, with an emphasis on
expressing what matters to them most. There are chances for them to speak to visitors about their artwork, receiving
valuable feedback and encouragement. It is not a competition, but a campaign to promote the talent of these artists.

As Flourish develops, opportunities will emerge for the artists to become involved in the organisation and planning of
events. It is hoped that Flourish will continue to reflect the breadth of artistic activity being undertaken by looked-after
young people in the UK.

Flourish was initiated by Newham Children and Young People’s Services, London and is kindly sponsored by
PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP.

Selection
We are looking for artworks for an exhibition to be held in Liverpool in October 2008, to coincide with the Association of Directors of Social Services Conference.

Flourish will consider work in any medium – surprise us! This could include painting, sculpture, photography, performances, moving image, poetry and prose or digital projects. Selection will be based on existing work only (not work planned for the future).

You may submit up to five separate works per person. There is no restriction on the number of people who can apply from a given area or group.

Submission
First, we would like to see images or other documentation of your work rather than the actual pieces, along with a
completed application form. Please take your time when completing this form - many exhibition applications follow similar formats and any practice you can get will be useful in the future. The quality of the images (or other description) you send of your work will be all we can go by at application stage, so make them as clear as possible.

Email: Attach jpegs, pdfs or word documents that describe your submission, along with a completed application form.

You can fill the application form out in Word and send it as an attachment. Email applications should be sent to

Digital submissions should be Mac compatible. Any technology-based projects need to describe the equipment required for the presentation of the work.

Deadline for sending images is Friday 27 June 2008
Actual work will be requested from the selected artists by Friday 15 August 2008
